Coomera scouts runs 4 sections - Joeys, Cubs, Scouts and ventures

JOEY SCOUTS

Joeys | 5.30 -630 Mondays

Joey Scouts is your first section in Scouts. It’s for boys and girls aged 6 and 7 and it’s all about fun!



Life as a Joey Scout


Life as a Joey Scout is full of discovery and excitement! As a Joey Scout you’ll be part of a Mob which is full of energetic kids just like you. You’ll have a trained Joey Scout Leader who will look after you and plan fantastic activities for you and your Mob. As a Joey Scout you’ll learn how to share and care while having fun with your friends.

Joey Scout Meetings


Joey Scout Mobs meet once a week at the coomera scout hall. The trained Joey Scout Leader and their assistants are in charge of ensuring that their Joey’s are participating in activities that not only entertain them, but also develop their skills.


The meetings are a great chance for everyone to see each other and participate in fun activities that improve the child’s physical and mental abilities. At the end of every meeting Joey Leaders ensure that their Joey Scouts go home having learnt something exciting and new.

Cub Scouts

Cubs | 6.30 to 8pm Tuesdays
Cubs | 6.30 to 8pm Thursdays

Cub Scouts is the second section into Scouts. It’s for boys and girls aged 8 to 10* and it’s all about adventure! *These ages may vary up to 6 months.


Life as a Cub Scout


If you enjoy fun, games and learning new skills then you’ll love being a Cub Scout! Life as a Cub Scout is full of adventure and teamwork. As a member of a ‘Six’ you and your Pack will work together to explore the world. Your Cub Scout Leader will help you along the way and encourage you to participate in Scouting activities. You’ll learn life-long skills and participate in the Cub Scouts Award Scheme and earn badges, make friends and have fun!


What Can I Do in Cub Scouts?

  • Enjoy bush walks
  • Learn water-safety skills
  • Orienteer and learn to read maps and compasses
  • Go camping with your friends
  • Learn about First Aid
  • Learn practical skills like knots and construction
  • and more


Cub Scout Meetings


Cub Scouts meet once a week at the coomera scout hall. The trained Cub Scout Leader and their assistants are in charge of ensuring that the Cub Scouts work well together and challenge themselves to do their best, while also meeting the development program goals for the week. The Leaders encourage their Cubs to use their imaginations and foster their creative and mental abilities. Cub Scout meetings are full of energy and fun and our Cubs go home with the confidence and the abilities to face whatever challenges or goals they set for themselves.

Scouts

Scouts | 7 to 9pm Wednesday

Scouts is for boys and girls aged 11 to 14* and is the most well known section of the Scouting Movement – Scouts is where the action is! *These ages may vary up to 6 months.


Life as a Scout


If you are passionate about action then you’re a Scout! Everyday will make your adrenaline rush when you participate in a range of action-packed activities. Whether you’re mastering the art of outdoor safety, participating in amateur radio shows and performing arts productions, or attending the ultimate Scouting adventure of a Jamboree, you’ll learn life-long skills that you can teach your friends.


At Scouts you’ll become a member of a Scout Patrol and your Patrol will work with other Patrols to form a larger Scout Troop. Together you’ll make important decisions, set critical goals, and depend on each other to succeed. And when you do succeed, you can earn achievement badges!


What Can I Do in Scouts?


• Abseil into limestone caves

• Navigate the bush lands and challenge yourself in survival camps

• Take art classes

• Learn how to build bridges and flying foxes

• Talk to over 500,000 Scouts across the world on the radio

• Trek 30km up a mountain and camp at the top

• Take an overnight river trip by canoe

• Attend the ultimate Scouting adventure of a Jamboree anywhere in Australia or the world!

• Pursue your hobbies and gain new skills


Scout Meetings


Scout Troops, which are comprised of several Scout Patrols, meet every week at the Coomera Scout Hall to discuss their progress and work towards achieving their goals. Scout meetings consist of team-building activities, playing games, developing specialised skills and knowledge, and planning for weekend adventures and camp-outs.


At meetings Troop members share stories and experiences of their recent adventures and offer advice to one another. Scout Leaders teach safety lessons on how to use equipment correctly and inspire their Scouts to be the best individuals and team players that they can be.

Venturer Scouts

Venturers | 7 to 9pm Mondays

Venturer Scouts is for males and females aged 15 to 17* who never turn down a good challenge and love to push themselves to their limits. *These ages may vary up to 6 months.


Life as a Venturer Scout


Venturer Scouts never turn down a challenge, in fact, they make their own! Scaling a 30m rock-face or abseiling into caves may frighten most people but Venturer Scouts face the challenge head on and then go white water kayaking! As a Venturer Scout you’ll work in Units with other Venturer Scouts and your Adult Leaders are always available to provide you with advice, encouragement, and support. As a Venturer Scout you’re given the freedom to choose your own activities, depending on your interests, because we know that you’re most motivated to achieve when you’re passionate about what you do.


What Can I Do in Venturer Scouts?


• Travel overseas on exchange

• Dive the coral reefs

• Gain leadership qualifications and undertake accredited management courses

• Tackle white-water rapids in a kayak

• Study astronomy and meteorology

• Examine the importance of conservation

• Serve the community and understand good citizenship

• Gain first-aid qualifications

• Plan and participate in your own challenging expeditions

• Develop skills in the visual, performing, and literary arts

• Experience personal growth

• Make new friends with similar interests and extend your social life

• Abseil down cliffs, fly planes, hang glide, build bridges, mountain bike across real mountains – the possibilities are endless.


Venturer Scouts Meetings


Venturer Scout Units meet on a weeklybasis at the Coomera Scout Hall and Venturer Leaders are simply there to provide adult leadership and support; they act as your Scouting mentors. Unit progress is discussed at meetings, along with how each Unit is turning their goals of the Venturer Program into reality.


Socialising is a must and strong bonds are formed through teamwork and a common desire to ensure that everyone becomes the best person they can be. If you’re a Venturer Scout your only limits are the ones that you set for yourself.
